Casa Hermosa - Playa Blanca - May 2017
After pulling up on the drive we entered the garden through a gate in the wall and found Roy tending to the garden, on greeting us he’d made the effort to know/remember who we were, which I thought was nice and just as we were answering his question on how are journey was, Sheila came out to meet us too.
As we were already stood in the garden, Roy pointed out the outside seating, barbecue and pool, letting us know that we were free to use them and no need to ask. He then took us around to the apartment, which is through a separate entrance, directly in front of you when you park on the drive. It's all on one level and consists of a small entrance hall, kitchen/living room, the one bedroom is through an archway off the kitchen, and the bathroom, is actually behind the kitchen, but access is from the bedroom.
Again Roy gave us a little tour explaining along the way, telling us to come knock if we needed anything, but before he left us, we asked him about the best route to walk in to Playa Blanca. We were glad we'd asked, as he explained the shortcut to the dual carriageway and also told us where the larger Spar supermarket and some restaurants were located.

They had kindly provided us with some basic essentials, couple of eggs, milk, some tea bags, bottled water, ham and cheese, which was a really nice thought and had we arrived late would have been a real benefit waking up the next morning (the larger Spar supermarket is marked on our Lanzarote map, which is at the bottom of the page).
The kitchen/living room is nice and bright, with double window above the sofa and just outside the window was a small patio, which had another window from Roy and Sheila’s part of the villa, however they ensured it was private for us, as the curtains were closed.
The bedroom was a very good size, with plenty of wardrobe (inc hangers) and drawer space for clothes, bedside table either side of the bed, with two sockets behind so you can easily charge your mobile at night (assuming you remembered adaptor plugs). Above the bed is a window, with an opening one at either side and we hadn’t realised until Roy had told us, but it has a mosquito net, so you can have the windows open at night with the net down protecting you from mosquito's getting in.
The bathroom is really nice and modern, there’s a small window that can be left open, as it has a mosquito net like the bedroom and to bring more light in, there’s a skylight. At night the lighting was not as good if you wanted to take a shower, as there’s just two lights above the mirror, however we didn’t find it an issue, usually taking a shower before going out for the evening. The water pressure is very good and the temperature was very nice, with it being a good size cubicle, there’s enough space to wash, it’s also convenient for applying sun cream to avoid staining towels.
Sadly the apartment doesn’t have air conditioning, although my wife had read that its position on the plot meant it was out of the sun helping to keep it cooler and there was a large fan. On our first night we found the upright oscillating fan was quite loud, even on the lowest setting, which didn't stop my wife falling asleep, but I had to turn it off. The next day coming back from our day out, Roy was in the driveway and asked us if everything was ok, so I mentioned the fan and that evening whilst we were out he replaced it with the more traditional upright 3 bladed fan, it was so much quieter.

As we spent most days visiting other resorts on the island, we only got to spend half a day by the pool. We’d just returned from Playa Blanca and saw Roy, so we mentioned going to use the pool, so he said he would open it up for us and said we’d find it quite warm, as it had been covered for a few days.
Roy was not wrong, it was like getting into a warm bath! There’s a semi circle seating area at the shallower end of the pool and sunbeds next to the pool, with pads in the boxes at the side. It was really peaceful laid there and having a dip in and out of the pool and all the garden areas around the villa are decorated very nicely.

In the apartment, you will also have free WiFi, a safe and they’ve kindly left a few other potential requirements in the drawers in the kitchen, like and adapter plug and plasters. The mini oven is great for warming up pain au chocolat and there’s also a microwave in the cupboard and carrier bags for supermarket runs. On the side table in the hall there's a small basket with loads of business cards of restaurants, if you look throught them, some visitors have made notes on them.
