Newark-on-Trent - January 2019
We parked in riverside car park and walked through a green area to the river, where they sometimes have a funfair and a beautiful view of the castle. From here we went over the bridge, to the right, across a bridge on top of the lock gates and then across another small bridge over a lock, not far to walk from the car park to get to the shops. Central to the town is a lovely, large market square, outside the town hall, there's a market on a Saturday selling fruit, veg, clothes and many other items. The town is nice, smaller than we expected, but has many shops, cafes/restaurants to look and stop in, but my favourite part was the castle and gardens, although not a large area to walk around, it is beautiful, with great views and will look even better on a summers day.
If you are heading North from Newark, we recommend stopping at The Hay Barn cafe at Kneesall, it's very popular and like us you may have to wait for a table, but it's worth the stop
