Stayed May 2016
Located in the small village of Erpingham, Deer’s Mead is just off the A140, making Cromer less than 20 minutes drive north, Norwich just over a 30 minute drive south and the beautiful, popular village of Wroxham 25 minutes drive. The site is a sister site to the Deer’s Glade Caravan and Camping Park, which is 5 minutes north of Deer’s Mead, is a much larger site that can accommodate families and has its own children’s play area.
About 9 miles from the campsite is the village of Aylsham, we were looking for a supermarket to get supplies and here you can find a Tesco, it’s easy to find, turn left out of the campsite and back to the A140, turn right and head south until you reach a roundabout, turn right at the roundabout and the Tesco is about half a mile on your left at the mini roundabout. We didn’t walk around the village, after visiting Tesco and after some directions from some friendly staff there, we headed to Gotterson's Fish Bar, to get a quick, albeit late tea, sadly it was not as nice as we'd hoped, with two cups of tea like hot milk and the fish had skin on, despite my wife trying to ask the gentlemen serving if it came with skin on, who looked at my wife like she was speaking a language from another planet.
On arrival first impressions of Deer's Mead were very good, the entrance looks very smart and tidy and as you pull into the drive, you can see the modern facilities building, which is central to the site. The site is adult only and quite small, in our opinion a perfect size, with a simple layout, most pitches being hard standing around the perimeter and as it’s mostly hard standing, it means the facilities are fairly quiet and don’t need to be any bigger.
There’s a nice reception area where you can pick up leaflets on the local area and attractions, the lady who greeted my wife was very friendly and directed us to our pitch, which was next to the static caravan (we believe this is for the onsite managers). It was a good size pitch, with electric hook-up, water and TV aerial port, a slightly sloped pitch and our Gelert Horizon 6 with porch fit comfortably, with space for the car and the trailer if we'd brought it.
Inside the facilities block, the toilets are very modern and clean, with two large shower cubicles and as previously mentioned fairly quiet. The shower is a rain head shower, a little higher up than necessary and as powerful as most people’s shower at home, in fact I had to keep the pressure down to help minimise the spray. Setting temperature was fine and it was a lovely hot shower, with enough space to wash, dry and get dressed.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Deer’s Mead, it’s very peaceful, a great location, with very nice facilities and we would definitely consider staying here again.
