Donkey Sanctuary - Sidmouth
Walking 'round this beautiful place, there is a very relaxed atmosphere and the feeling all the donkeys here are cared for very much and they all have beautiful, spacious paddocks. You can spend a good few hours walking 'round the many well kept pathways, which lead from one paddock to another, watching these calm animals pulling at the very short grass, which we’d struggle to grip hold of.
Down near the visitors centre you will find the cafe for a tea break and behind at the other side of the cafe, is a gift shop and then you can carry on down to a courtyard, where the donkeys roam free (including some of the older residents), for you to get close to these very calm animals, with the exception of an odd donkey bray, from one of them trying to get some attention.
It's free to get in and although it's a charity, there's nobody rattling a bucket in your face or pleading for money, but if you wish to make a donation, no matter how small, it will be greatly appreciated and there are donation boxes dotted around.
Well worth a visit!
